The Portuguese Style of Knitting for Beginners

If you have ever tried knitting before but found handling the materials too awkward, this style may be just perfect for you. Finally experience the satisfaction of creating beautiful and useful knitted items for yourself and others. This class is geared toward real beginners. We will cover all the basics such as casting on and binding off, the knit stitch and the purl stitch, combining knits and purls into pleasing patterns, simple increases and decreases, as well as discussing the importance of gauge and making swatches, reading your knitting (recognizing the stitches), using various tools of the trade, the characteristics of various yarns, and how to choose the appropriate yarn for your project.
No prerequisites. Instructor will supply materials.

Open studio classes allow the freedom to explore all mediums under the guidance of a professional Artist. Work in watercolor, oils, acrylic, drawing media and sculpture. You choose your subject and work from your own drawings or photographs. Work at your own pace in a no-pressure atmosphere. Ongoing studio classes allow uninterrupted creativity; when you finish a work, you can begin another immediately without waiting for another semester to start.
Class size is limited; register early. Ages 14-17 must be accompanies by an adult.

This is a general class for the novice and those who have experience in Genealogical research. We will focus on how
to start your family history research, how to establish goals, conduct interviews, and locate information in area libraries.
You will be introduced to the computer-based genealogy. Wait until class starts before deciding which Genealogy Software
to purchase. The first meeting of this class will be at the library followed by field trips to the Family History Center located
in Ledgewood.

Learn the basics of knitting and crocheting. If you are more experienced and working on a project, bring it
along as I guide you to finishing. In both cases, basic stitches will be demonstrated as the student tries to

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY INTRODUCTION

This course will introduce you to all the possibilities that digital photography has to offer. 
In just 10 hours, you will master your digital SLR
camera. Different types of cameras, lenses, flashes, filters and other accessories will be covered. You will also learn basic camera
operation/care, commonly used shooting functions, using the mode dial and, most importantly, how to use the manual method and why it is important to know it if you want to start “making” pictures instead of just
“taking” them!
Bring your camera to class with you. If you don’t have a camera, don’t buy one until after the first class!

To take this course, the student must be familiar with their camera and know how to take pictures in a manual setting. After a quick review of basics such as a histogram, white balance, and RAW vs. JPEG, we will
go immediately into posing. Subsequent classes will cover lighting, special events photography and digital dark-room with an introduction to Adobe Photoshop. The field trip will focus on hints for great outdoor photography.

BASICS IN BEADED JEWELRY

Learn the fundamentals of creating your own beaded jewelry in this introductory stringing class. The course will focus not only on design and technique, but materials and tools of the trade will be covered as well. Students will be encouraged to explore their own personal style while creating simple, yet delightful, pieces of artisan type jewelry to wear or give as gifts. Students will supply their own tools/materials which should be brought to the first class.
A small materials fee of $10.00 will be payable to the instructor at the first class to cover the cost of your first set of “findings”. Tool and material costs vary tremendously, but when it comes to making jewelry, you DO get what you pay for.

WIRE WRAPPED JEWELRY MADE SIMPLE

Take your basic jewelry making skills to the next level with this intro course to wire wrapped jewelry. Learn to make a variety of not only practical, but fun components to enhance your jewelry designs – eye-pins, ear-wires, clasps, spirals, scrolls, rings, coils, and more. You’ll also learn to make wire wrapped pendants and dangles out of a variety of materials with several different techniques. There’s no limit to what you can create with the versatility of wire wrapping! Students will supply their own tools/materials which should be brought to the first class.Tool and material costs vary tremendously, but when it comes to making jewelry, you DO get what you pay for.
