The primary goal of the Fire Marshal's Office is to prevent fires by assuring that all publicly occupied structures are maintained in accordance with nationally recognized fire safety standards. The Fire Prevention Bureau was established back in 1972, to promote fire safety through out the Township of Mount Olive. Due to the high increase loss of life, during the 1970’s, and 1980’s, the State of New Jersey adopted The Uniform Fire Codes of New Jersey. These codes help business and homeowners create a safer working and living condition.
Currently the Fire Prevention Bureau consists of two personnel. The Fire Official or Fire Marshal is Fred Detoro. The Fire Marshal oversees the all inspections of commercial and businesses are done by the Fire Inspectors. The Fire Marshal also helps businesses in the town, set up and operate with in the guidelines of the New Jersey Sate Uniform Fire Code. The Fire Marshal also inspects all new homes, as well as all new
appliances that burn fuels such as furnaces, hot water heaters, and fireplace inserts. These types of inspections type of inspections fall under the Building Construction Official, in which Fred Detoro is the Fire Sub code Official.
The Fire Inspector is Marc Muccione. The job of the Fire Inspector is to inspect all commercial buildings and businesses. The Fire Inspector also inspects all homes being sold in Mount Olive Township. The Fire Inspector also responds throughout Mt. Olive Township for complaints that are reported. Some complaints may consist of open burning, illegal fireworks, and fire lane blockage, just to name a few.
The Fire Marshal and Fire Inspector are routinely requested to provide fire safety training for the businesses in the Mount Olive Township. Lectures, fire extinguisher training, and evacuation planning, are some topics that are provided.
Another important function of the Fire Marshal’s Office is to respond and investigate all reported fires or explosions occurring within Mount Olive Township. As trained fire investigators, The Fire Marshal’s Office determines the origin and cause of the fire. These investigations are preformed in conjunction with the Mount Olive Township Police Department.
